GODFREY’S TIME OUT feature film

In Development

Godfrey’s Time Out is a feature-length film that follows a recently-released life-sentence survivor who yearns to rebuild life anew in present-day Asian America. This film aims to subvert plots of model minority success and prisoner redemption, and draws from place-based storytelling workshops with formerly-incarcerated Asian Americans and my personal experience as a relative of a system-impacted family member.

I am developing this film through a series of storytelling workshops in partnership with API RISE that integrate scenes studies, animal work, improv, and a model of the Theatre of the Oppressed. These workshops have been attended and co-facilitated by members of Tim Robbins’ The Actors’ Gang, the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, and the Asian Prisoner Support Committee. Godfrey’s Time Out has also received support support from SFFILM, where I am currently a FilmHouse resident.
